A Message from the President
I do not blow my own horn very well. I guess it is one of my shortcomings,. However, I have no problems blowing the horn of others, especially my staff. While more and more commerce, including insurance, is being transacted over the Internet, and service units are being moved to Bhopal India, it is nice to know that there is something still right with the mindset of superior, personal service. Specifically, I am referring to two recent awards that the Merriam Agency received.
For the third year in a row, we have received the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers Association’s (IIABA) Best Practices Award. In order to qualify, insurance agencies are nominated by state associations or insurance companies and must qualify based on the agency’s operational excellence. Of 1200 agencies nominated nationwide, only 224 qualify for the top honor. To be chosen, the agency has to be among the 35-40 top-performing agencies in one of six categories. To have won this three years in a row says something about the caliber of our staff, who ultimately work for you, our clients. Were we to deliver poor service, our clients would eschew us and seek out the services of our competitors. Yet, we have been blessed in these 117 years of our agency longevity, that our clients tend to stay with us long-term, thereby allowing us to enjoy good performance accolades, like the Best Practices award.
The other horn I would like to blow is that we are also being recognized in Success Magazine, a national professional publication. The magazine is going to exposé the Merriam Agency, both because of our Best Practices awards, and because of our longevity. There will be a lengthy article coming out in Success’ December issue, and we are quite honored to receive national attention in this way.
So why blow our own horn?
I do not want to be read as arrogant or haughty at all. I am actually quite humbled by these honors. Yet, we could accomplish nothing were it not for God’s blessings, the legacy of my forefathers’ work in this firm, the guidance we have received from seasoned insurance professionals over many years, past and present dedicated employees, and of course, the trust of our clients. When you choose us to be your insurance broker, you are not really certain about the people to whom you are entrusting the protection of your business, or ministry, or personal assets. Yet, if the commendations of others are any barometer of quality, these recent awards may give you a sense of peace. As we often write in our taglines, “Your peace of mind is our business.” Thank you for your trust, for as we strive to exceed your expectations, that trust is our greatest reward!
